Photo Essay: Blue Hues of George Town
I stepped into the glass elevator and made my way up to the rooftop of my hotel for breakfast on my first morning in George Town. As the elevator reached the top floor it presented a sprawling view of a blend of traditional Chinese and colonial architecture that makes up the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The first thing that caught my eye were the colors—copper red roof tiles, ultramarine mansions, goldenrod shophouses—the city is a complete visual feast. I spent the next week on my feet determined to not leave a single floor tile or paint chipped turquoise door left unseen. It was difficult to get very far in a hurry because every time I turned my gaze there were rainbow umbrellas I needed to stop and admire or a poster warning of fake monks that I needed to read.
There isn’t a single inch of the city that doesn’t have something interesting to look at—from the small altars that rest on the archways adjacent to each home to the interactive street art George Town is famous for—there is just beauty and attention to detail everywhere you look.
I came home with thousands of photos and as I was sorting through them I noticed shades of blue were a recurring theme. Indigo, aquamarine, pewter, periwinkle, cobalt—George Town does a fantastic job of displaying hues of blue you never even knew you loved until you see them.
Since blue is my favorite color I wanted to create a post dedicated to all the shades of blue I discovered on my recent trip to George Town. If you love this calming color as much as I do then settle in and scroll your way to Zen.
